I always show up a little early when I’ve never shot at a venue before because it takes me a while to get set up but I knew as soon as I pulled up to Emily’s farmhouse that it was going to be a good day. I walked upstairs and was greeted by Emily with the biggest hug and as soon as I gathered her details and saw the huge, pink peonies her bridesmaids were holding, I couldn’t wait to get started.
Backyard weddings always end up being some of my favorites. I remember telling Emily this when I first met with her and I wasn’t kidding when I said so. I’ve done two or three and there’s something so memorable and special about getting married in such a comfortable, familiar place. I love how backyard weddings show how much work and thought my couples put into their day because they have to transform a home into a venue. Emily and Justin had their wedding at Emily’s family home in Staunton, Virginia and it goes down in history as one of my favorite days. I adored everything from Emily’s dress to the wooden pews at their ceremony to the donut table to the outdoor dance floor lit by string lights. Emily and Justin have been such a joy to work with and their laid back nature and amazing family/bridal party made me feel more like a guest than a vendor. Despite a few raindrops, the cloudy day turned into a sunny one of the perfect temperature. These two have been patiently waiting since getting engaged to speak their vows to one another and I can’t believe they’re finally married!! Here’s a look into their beautiful, spring wedding day!
