Lexington Virginia Wedding Photographer | Big Spring Farm | Megan + Justin

June 13, 2016

I will never forget the day that I met Megan. We are both photographers and there was a meet-up happening in Richmond. Megan and I didn’t know each other at the time but she put a post in the group asking if anyone wanted to meet up to exchange headshots before the dinner. A bunch of people replied saying they wanted to come, including me, but I was the only one who showed up that day. Megan and I laugh about this all the time now because she swore I was a 30-year-old mom from Facebook. So embarrassing…. Megan, I will never forgive you for this and I still don’t understand. Haha! But when I showed up and got out of my car, she was super surprised to find that I was actually a 20-year-old girl, about the same age as her.

We ended up hanging out for a while taking terrible photos of each other and eventually discovered we were going to be at the same conference with about twenty other girls in the months following. CRAZY. This conference was through Delight, an organization that I support with my whole heart but it’s not a very big group of girls so the fact that we were both going to be there was insane!

Looking back now it is SO clear that our friendship was ordained by God. Haha! When a lot of my friends went off to college, God placed amazing people in my life who were also in the same season but it wasn’t until I met Megan that I felt I had gained a lifelong best friend — someone I would text every day, someone I would travel the U.S. with, someone who would eventually ask me to be in her wedding.

I very vividly remember Megan sharing about her boyfriend Justin the day we met. She said they had dated about five years and that she was so ready to be married. Little did I know at the time how much she meant that. Megan and I became fast friends. Well, more like sisters considering how we fight, but I quickly learned her relationship was a huge part of her life. I got to walk the season of dating and the season of engagement with her in the year following and there was no one I knew who wanted to be married more than her. During this time, we grew super close and I gained so much respect for her. She and Justin waited to move in together until after their wedding so it was a more difficult wait than it is for some people but I think it’s so admirable.

Three weeks ago, I got to stand by Megan’s side as she married Justin at the gorgeous Big Spring Farm and although it rained most of the day, it was absolutely beautiful and in my opinion, couldn’t have been more perfect. Watching your best friend marry her best friend is so special and I couldn’t be more thankful they finally get to live life together in their adorable Tyson’s Corner apartment! Justin and Megan, thank you for being such gracious friends and for allowing me to travel with you, come over to visit you the day after you got back from your honeymoon, and for setting such a beautiful example of Christ’s love for people. Getting to photograph these few images of you the day before you became husband and wife was beyond special! I love you both!
