I have dreamed of the day I would get to travel to NYC for an engagement session and I can finally say that day arrived a few weeks ago and I got to capture the sweetest couple in front of the most insane backdrop I’ve ever seen. When Alex and Michael first booked me, they mentioned that they lived in a high rise in the midtown area and I immediately thought of how fun it would be to do their engagement session in the city they call home and will soon start their life together.
My favorite thing is getting to capture people in a location completely different from their wedding venue so that they have a lot of variety in their photos and since Alex and Michael are getting married in Virginia at a vineyard, I knew NYC would be perfect for their engagements! These two have pretty insane schedules and weren’t actually going to be able to make it to Charlottesville for an engagement session anyway so it worked out perfectly for me to go up there earlier last month. I arrived in the city on a Monday and woke up the next morning way before the sun to head to their apartment for sunrise so I could capture them on their apartment rooftop, which had the most insane panoramic views. I think my heart stopped beating for a second when I stepped foot up there that morning and saw the way the sun lit the sides of the buildings right as it peaked over the horizon.
It was absolutely frigid and the wind was a little out of control on this April morning but Alex and Michael had such a positive outlook on everything and made it so much fun with their laughter! After we shot on the rooftop, we went a couple blocks over to the Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park to capture their casual outfit and I love how those shots turned out! The light was so stunning and while there were people out, it was actually quite peaceful for NYC. It was seriously such a joy to get to photograph this gorgeous couple in NYC and I could go on and on about our time but I’m SO excited to share these photos so without further ado, check out some of my favorites from their session below!
