There is nothing I love more than a destination engagement or wedding. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — I love to travel. Getting to photograph a couple in love in a place I’ve never been is so thrilling to me. I see everything with fresh eyes and draw inspiration from houses, trees, and even cars. I had been to Wilmington twice before this but I never got to just leisurely walk all around so I loved getting to be here for Lisa and Brian’s engagement photos.
The week of Lisa and Brian’s engagements was my crazy week so I left that morning for the shoot and arrived about an hour early to location scout. I parked my car near the beach and walked all around the streets, full of old, quaint homes that reminded me of Nicolas Sparks movie. Oh, wait, they probably were in a Nicolas Sparks movie. 🙂 Also, one of the first things I saw when I stopped was a turquoise VW van and let’s just say when I saw that, I knew it was going to be a good day.
I first met Lisa and Brian about a month ago at King Family Vineyards in Crozet, Virginia where they’re getting married so it was nice to show up to this shoot having already met them. These two have lived in Wilmington for a large part of their lives and according to Brian, the city just gets better and better. I can totally see how! We started the shoot in downtown and walked one of the neighborhood streets, stopping along the way and then went over to Fort Fisher, which is one of the coolest beaches on the east coast that I’ve seen. I loved that there were trees, rocks, and dunes. It was different than most of the NC beaches I’ve been to. Lisa and Brian absolutely rocked their engagement session and you would have thought that they had done this a million times! Here are a few a lot of my favorites from their sweet session!
