If you live in Virginia, you know the past three or four weeks, it has been raining nonstop. We’ll have half a day of sun once a week and then it’s back to clouds and buckets of water being dumped from the sky. With weather like that, it makes wedding season just a little bit more nerve-racking. I know my brides and grooms have been wishing for sunny weather ever since the beginning of planning but there’s nothing I can do to give them what they want when it comes to weather — it’s completely out of my control and I hate that. I had been checking the radar constantly the morning before Lauren and David’s wedding and for the whole day, there was an 80% chance but when I looked at the hourly, it was only the morning with a heavy percentage. I was counting on the weathermen and considering they have the only job where you don’t ever have to be right, I was still a little unsure. I pulled up to Cross Keys, where I shoot quite a few times a year and it started pouring as I was bringing my gear in. I kept praying and right after I finished shooting details under the covered porch upstairs, I watched the clouds part and the sun slowly make its way out! There was even a small, faint rainbow! At that point, I knew we’d be fine. 🙂
I got to know Lauren and David at their engagement session back in the fall and I know I say this a lot about my couples (because they’re amazing) but they treated me like a friend. I could see how the two of them together were a perfect match immediately. They laughed constantly and I walked away from their session happy to have a job like I do! So I knew even when I showed up to their wedding venue in the rain that I’d still see a smile on Lauren and David’s faces. A little rain isn’t so bad when it makes you celebrate the sun when it finally comes out! 😀 Lauren and David’s day was full of their sweet family, beautiful florals, a gorgeous view, and a love that’s been ongoing. These two have known each other since they were tiny and they finally got to tie the knot at beautiful Cross Keys Vineyards a couple weekends ago! My face reflected the joy that was felt all around — Lauren and David are such gems and I couldn’t be happier to see them married!
