This industry that I work in is full of so many kind and talented people and Emily is one of those sweet souls. Emily is a hair and makeup artist based out of Richmond and she was hired for a shoot I was assisting on in Charlottesville last fall, which is where I met her. We had a few minutes to chat that day and I loved hearing all about her business and travels across the world. I feel like Emily has been everywhere and that’s always fascinating to me so I couldn’t wait to hang out with her outside of work.

We eventually grabbed coffee one day when I was in Richmond and after that, I knew I wanted Emily to do hair and makeup for the fashion shoot I did for Anthropologie. Hannah and I met Emily at her gorgeous Richmond apartment last month and we had the best time. She has the coolest style and her home is such a unique mix of furniture and fun decor. We joked that it was like a treasure hunt because you could find things in every corner.

So a few weeks later when Emily asked if I’d be up for coming back to her home and doing some headshots of her for her site, I was so flattered and couldn’t wait! We ended up turning one of Emily’s rooms into our little studio and it was so cool!! It’s not often that I get to do lifestyle shoots like this so I loved every minute. After shooting inside, I felt like I had gotten so many good photos but since I normally shoot outdoors, I told Emily we could go out and get a few outside. So we ventured around near the VMFA and just when I was about to end the shoot, we found the coolest pink grass and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. We had already gotten the safe shots inside so it was our time to get creative and do something different, which Emily was totally up for. It ended up being well worth all the strange stares from passing cars and the uncomfortable positions I put Emily in! Haha! Emily, you’re the BEST!!
