When I first photographed Kathleen and Shawn on their property back in the fall, I knew their wedding would be something special just by the way they loved each other and had such a good time together. I had a feeling it would be an emotional day, taking place at Kathleen’s childhood home and I knew it would be perfect the second I drove up that day and saw all the pieces coming together on their gorgeous land. It was a warm day but a beautiful one — I walked in their home and was greeted by the kindest bridesmaids and Kathleen’s sweet momma! I freaked out over her gown, got all the details together, and started styling those as the girls finished hair and makeup. It was so fun seeing all the elements that Kathleen and her family worked so hard on and it set such a good tone for the day!! Backyard weddings are a lot of work but all of the ones I’ve photographed always impress me!
After Kathleen got in her gorgeous gown with the help of all her bridesmaids, twirled around, and opened Shawn’s gift to her (a gorgeous infinity Tiffany’s necklace), she had a first look with her dad! I’m always fond of these but her dad’s reaction was probably the best one yet. His mouth dropped and I think he said something along the lines of “You look so good!!” Once Kathleen’s dad saw her, it was time for Shawn to see her!! First looks with the bride and groom are my favorite and you can read all the reasons why I encourage them here. Shawn was blown away and we got to spend the next couple hours doing portraits without being rushed and then shooting the bridal party together, allowing for a more relaxed timeline after the ceremony.
The rest of the day flew by but I honestly loved every single part. I always say this but it was a long winter without weddings and I finally feel like I’m back in the groove and soaking up every bit of it! All my couples are the most sincere and kind people and it makes showing up and photographing such a memorable day fun rather than stressful. I have been working hard at getting these images on the blog because I’m SO excited about them so today’s the day!! Kathleen and Shawn, I love you guys!!!
