So funny story… I booked Devon and Dan’s wedding back in March through their amazing planner Logan Powell of Real Southern Accents. Their wedding is this coming weekend but due to our crazy schedules, we didn’t get their engagement session on the calendar until early September. We were planning to shoot at the gorgeous house on Grace Estate Winery‘s property which I was SO excited about and I had been checking the weather nonstop like always the day before their shoot and the day of. The radar was changing every thirty minutes and honestly when that’s the case I usually don’t worry too much. I told Devon I’d let her make the call since they were coming from out of state and she said they still wanted to do it. So I start driving the twenty minute drive out to the winery and I just see the clouds start to get darker and darker….. The wind was blowing leaves off the trees and it was about 4PM but looked like 8PM. I just had a feeling it was about to dump on us. So I get up to the top of this long drive and pull up to the house where Devon and Dan are in the car. And as SOON as I get out of my car to tell them I’m worried we might have to reschedule, it starts POURING. It was so sad because I didn’t even get to talk to them and I had to jump back in the car before I got struck by lightning. Haha!!! Also, to add to the craziness, apparently they watched some girl drive her car straight into a ditch by the house right before I got there and they thought it was me at first…. HAHA!! Thankfully, the girl was fine so we can laugh about it but when I showed up, there was this car turned over on the side of the road….. It was clearly an interesting start to me meeting Devon and Dan. But they were SO kind and understanding and I was able to fit them in before the wedding!!
I have actually never done a shoot in Fredericksburg so when they mentioned that was a more neutral point as a location, I was SO excited!! We started in the CUTEST neighborhood in the downtown area and then ended at sunset at a park with an open field! I honestly had such a good time getting to know these two and I am always so thankful to have that time before showing up on the wedding day. It makes me feel like a friend rather than just a photographer and helps me to tell the story so much better knowing they’re comfortable with me being with them for 8-10 hours.
So Devon and Dan, I can’t WAIT until Saturday!!! Less than two days to go!
