I was sitting at a coffeeshop one afternoon when someone I knew walked in and we started chatting. I was in the middle of busy season so I was updating her a bit on my business and she mentioned she had a friend who recently got engaged and was looking for a wedding photographer. She said she’d recommend me and give her friend my website. I honestly will be forever grateful for the people in my life who share my business with others. It’s seriously a HUGE blessing and word of mouth advertising is a big part of how I book weddings. Sometimes it doesn’t work out due to the budget or date but a few days after I chatted with Brooke at the coffeeshop about her friend Ashley who was engaged, I got an inquiry from her.
Ashley told me about how she was getting married at a new venue in Waynesboro called Red August Farm, which ironically I had JUST toured and fell in love with. I was SO excited when they ended up booking. We started talking right away about when and where she wanted to do their engagement session and originally I mentioned fall or early spring since usually no one is super excited about photos in the winter. But Ashley kept saying how she dreamed of a snowy session and loved wintry shoots so she threw out the idea of Wintergreen Resort, which is a ski resort not too far from here. We had planned on that for a while even though I figured there would only be a small chance of snow in December. Well, last minute, Ashley asked if they could switch the location to the ski resort in Snowshoe, West Virginia where Ashley and Greg have shared many dates and memories. I was thrilled because I loved that it was a special place to them and ALSO, there was a bigger chance of there being snow. And sure enough, they got lucky and it snowed the weekend before their shoot!! Some of it had melted but it still had that magical, romantic feel to it and it was an absolute DREAM.
If every winter shoot I did could involve snow, I’d put up with the cold more often. Haha!!! Thankfully it wasn’t a brutally cold day and there was practically no one at the resort. I was blown away when I showed up to location scout, overwhelmed by all the adorable locations we had to choose from. It reminded me of some of the areas I’ve visited in Colorado which made my heart even happier. Ashley and Greg are such sweethearts and capturing their love brought me so much joy! I loved my time with them up at Snowshoe and I absolutely cannot wait until their wedding next year but for now, here are some of my favorites from their Snowshoe shoot!
