It has been a minute since I have shared a proposal on my blog!! Proposals are always so much fun and I love getting to be a part of them. This one was really special because I have been working with Michael’s family for years! I shot both of his sisters’ weddings, engagements, bridal portraits, and some family photos as well. They are precious people and I adore them so when Michael reached out telling me he was about to pop the question and wanted me there, I just about squealed. We emailed for about a month trying to figure out the plan and Michael decided to do it in the peak of fall at King Family Vineyards, a vineyard Kristen loves! He planned an entire vineyard tour for them and a ton of their friends because Kristen always said when she got engaged, she wanted all her best pals there. So that’s exactly what she got!
When I showed up to King that day, just before Michael and Kristen and all their friends pulled up in the winery tour bus, I walked out back on the lawn to find probably a thousand people. I can’t even estimate how many people there were but there were so many that even on the grass, there wasn’t really open space to sit. I have never in my entire life of living in this area seen it so packed!! I had to think fast because not only were there a ton of people there, but the one spot Michael had planned on proposing was blocked off and was a construction site….. Haha! I quickly walked as far away from the crowds as I could to find the one open spot as far down on the polo field as possible. Michael went to the “bathroom” and we convened to get on the same page about the new plan.
Usually with winery proposals, it’s pretty easy to blend in because I can just sit or pretend to take some scenery photos but Kristen has met me before and I wasn’t sure if she would remember me but I knew I had to be more inconspicuous than usual. I wore a hat and sunglasses and found a good spot on the polo field to lay out in the sunshine, with my camera hidden away until the right time. Michael’s plan was to have one of their friends ask Kristen to take their photo out by the mountains (near where I was sitting) and then ask if she and Michael wanted a photo too so that he would come along. When it was their time to have their photo taken, their friends backed away and Michael got down on one knee. It was so sweet and watching their friends come running towards them all screaming with champagne flying was one of my favorite moments! Everyone at the winery cheered and it was so fun!
I love how all of these turned out and I can’t wait to see Kristen as a bride this year!! She’s going to be so beautiful and I know their day will be a blast!!
