This was one of the very first family sessions I did after moving to Oahu! I absolutely loved this session for so many reasons. I actually know Ali from Virginia because she is a wedding photographer as well! But I also photographed her while she was pregnant with Hana. It was such an honor to photograph the two of them during such an uncertain time and to be trusted with that meant a lot. When Ali was pregnant with Hana, they actually weren’t sure she would make it.

Hana had a dangerous growth on her spine and they had spent hours and days driving up to a specialized hospital leading up to the birth. Hana ended up having to get surgery not long after being born and by the grace of God, she is okay! I remember hearing the news that she was going to be okay and I was so thankful. Getting to photograph their family again with a healthy Hana was seriously an absolute gift. Hana is the happiest, most infectious child I’ve ever met and I couldn’t stop smiling their whole shoot because she was such a bundle of joy.

Ali and Chad visit Hawaii just about every year which is why they named their baby Hana (after the Road to Hana) and we’ve always bonded over our love for the islands so getting to photograph them here was my favorite thing! I don’t think these photos could have possibly come out any better. We had such stunning light and the most magical backdrop and Hana is basically a baby model! I am so excited to share these!!
