It is so wild looking back at these photos from over six months ago because this was only the second time we had hung out with the Taphorn family and they are now some of our best friends on the island. I shared this story on my Instagram when I first posted these back in December but Erika is also a photographer and they moved here only a week after we did.

Erika and I both followed each other on Instagram and she knew we were moving to Oahu around the same time as them so we had messaged a few times before we both moved. We had chatted about various moving challenges, starting a business on the island, etc. I knew we’d probably meet up when we both got on island, but God had cooler plans for bringing us together!

One day Sam and I were up on the north shore and while Sam surfed, I was just scrolling on Instagram. I stumbled upon a story of a family that looked like they were on the same beach as me. I looked in front of me and sure enough, it was the Taphorn family! It is a small island but it was still pretty wild that we both ended up on the same beach on the north shore when neither of us lived up there at the time. I ended up going up to Erika to say hi and to introduce myself and I guess you could say the rest was history.
