Back when I lived in Virginia, I used to photograph proposals almost every month. I did a TON of them!! They are always so much fun and full of adrenaline. I always meticulously plan with the guy ahead of time to ensure we are on the same page with where he plans to pop the question, where I’ll be, and what time they’ll arrive. It’s actually a little bit easier photographing proposals in Hawaii vs. at a Virginia winery, for example, because I can just pretend to be a tourist a lot easier. I don’t look nearly as out of place with my long camera lens on a beach here as I did with a giant lens in an open field in Virginia. Haha!!

This one was particularly fun because this location is one of my favorites! David reached out to me not too long before their trip and told me he was going to propose and really wanted it photographed. He wasn’t able to meet up with me ahead of time so it was super fun scheming with him with lots of photos of the location/stick drawings to make sure I knew exactly where he would be when I got there. Haha!

Thankfully a sweet man and his daughter didn’t mind when I asked them to move out of the very specific spot we chose right beforehand. I would normally NEVER do that for a shoot but when it’s a proposal it’s REALLY stressful when people are in the background because you don’t want them to ruin the moment or be right beside them…..

It ended up working out flawlessly and it was so fun revealing myself and celebrating with them after! We walked all over the beach, capturing every nook and cranny of this gorgeous spot!!
